Groups and being simple.

I cannot believe the semester is ending. In less than a month, I'll be done with all my papers and holidays would start! :D

In the last week, I had 2 presentations to do and fortunately (I think) both went well. Especially the video which we did for one of the presentations. You know how at the end of every group project you start thinking, "Oh crap, what's next. Is everything going to end here?" And from what I learnt in class, some groups are task-focused. Meaning the group dissolves after completing the project. It takes a lot of effort to ensure that the group can progress beyond that stage.

Thinking back, my Marketing group was one such example. We had a great time working together and we enjoyed working together. We performed well too. When the project ended, the group simply dissolved. We talk to each other when we bump into each other, catching up with each other sincerely (as compared to the insincere small talk we are sometimes forced to make with other people). But we just don't go out together, or talk frequently online.

There are also some bad group experiences whereby I just cannot bond with the members. No matter how hard I make the effort to. I attribute the reason to 'No fate'. It's not anyone's fault, or at least I would like to think that it's not my fault. When the project ends, the only thought on my mind was, "Good riddance!" Okay, that sounded evil, especially after I said it was no one's fault that the group turned out like that, but still...it's a huge relief that it's over and we don't have to be forced to meet again.

There are also some groups whereby besides performing, we also achieve some relationship building in the process. I'm really grateful for such groups, because if not I'll still be a loner in Year 3. The reason why I started talking about groups is cuz I was thinking about whether one of my groups had the potential to become one such group. Whereby we can go out together during the holidays and hang out. It might be a little hard but I'm going to take the first step. I think. :D HAHA.

Moving on, my homework for the week since S_ms_n refused to share,

HOW TO BE SIMPLE

  1. 1
Use correct posture- if you slouch all the time, you will have back problems in the future.
  2. 2
Find the easiest way of doing things- If something can be easy, do it in the simplest way. Don't take 15 steps to solve a problem that requires 2 steps to solve. Now this doesn't means that the easiest way is always easy.
  3. 3
Think before you speak- if you don't have anything to say, then don't say any thing. If you do have anything to say, think about what you're saying to avoid making further embarrassment and stupidity of yourself.
  4. 4
Have some sense- Simple people are the most productive people because they have the 5 life senses(book sense, common sense, street sense, fashion sense, and business sense) Not everyone is going to have an equal amount but try to be equal in all fields.
  5. 5
Dress simple- Don't go for anything too colorful and not too dull. If its formal, wear some dark slacks, a decent white dress shirt, a red tie, and some black dress shoes. Its as simple as wearing t-shirt and blue jeans. But your style is you.
  6. 6
Have some manners- it wont kill you and good manners will take you very far in life.
  7. 7
Don't be a coward- Stand up for what you believe in. Simple people also think before mental and physical argument.
  8. 8
Have a good attitude. This is by far the most important thing to have. A good attitude is worth more than a billion dollars. If a simple person is told to do something, he does it, but he doesn't get pushed in the wrong direction either. He doesn't get used or taken advantage of.
  9. 9
Be independent. You can try to get things done by yourself such as cleaning your bedroom, doing your homework, maybe cooking or cleaning. This will show you are responsible and independent.
  10. 10
Stick to good morals and values. Don't drink, smoke, do drugs or party all night. These things aren't important, they won't help your future-and they're definitely not good for you or your health. Stay away from it! If moderate alcohol use is traditional in your family, ask an adult for advice on responsible drinking. Stick to a curfew hour even if your parents haven't set one for you, like always be home by midnight or earlier. (business smart)

Basically I think no. 1 is crap, no. 2 makes some sense, I think I've been doing no. 3, am clueless about how to achieve no. 4, I think I'm not too colourful w.r.t. no. 5, hope I've been practising no. 6, am a coward so I'll never do no. 7, how to determine if my attitude is good? w.r.t. no. 8, what has being independent got to do with being simple?! so no. 9 is crap, and I think I've stuck with my values so far except the stick to curfew hour part cuz my parents don't set one for me but I think the latest I've been home is around 1am.

Uh, being simple doesn't seem too simple.

Energy of the universe, gather around me.

I am jealous of my P1 student. He has an ultraman eraser.

I need all the energy from the universe. I can't believe I'll be in school at 9am till forever on a public holiday. This stinks.

流沙包

Today I had a craving for this:

I had it once at Bruce Cafe in NUS and it was awesomeeeeeee. For the ignorant (HAHA, don't worry I was once ignorant too, I only knew it in recent years), this is called 流沙包. The yellowish filling is supposed to be custard and molten salted egg yolk. When eaten warm, the contents is supposed to flow out!

I tried it twice in HK but I didn't know you had to eat it immediately to see it flow out. If you wait too long, the contents may harden. And so both times I tried, it didn't flow out so I was super disappointed.

So today I had the craving again and I went all the way to Bruce Cafe in the island of Utown. AND. THEY. TOLD. ME. IT. WAS. SOLD. OUT. :( Mega sad. And it didn't help that I had to order something (since I was there and it'll be a little embarrassing if I didn't order anything), and I ended up with 3 pieces of carrot cake. I only wanted one, but it's another story. ZZZZzzzzz.

10 Random Facts About Me

I think I've probably done a bit of this in a past blog post but this is in the spirit of an EEE with Samson. Exciting Entry Exchange. It is a lame game I came up with (or was it another friend of mine, I don't remember) whereby we write on the same topic and read each others' entries. The only purpose is to kill time, haha.

So here we go, 10 random facts about me!

1. I've mentioned it a thousand times I think. I hate round nuggets. I like those which are shaped oddly. Round nuggets make me disgusted.

2. I play Chinese Chess and am lousy at it.

3. My favourite cartoon is Spongebob so I was a little sad when they did a study and found that watching it makes you stupid. Or something along the lines of stupid. I don't remember. I also like Crayon Shin-Chan. I watch a lot of Tom and Jerry when I was young too.

4. I have never downloaded a song online illegally. Not because I fear getting caught but because I am too not tech-savvy to do it. Like where do you download it from ah?

5. I am interested in women's issues. Not the PMS/menstrual cramps kind of issues but more of like women's rights. If I remain single forever and have no kin, I might become a women rights fighter. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

6. I am secretly an introvert, according to the results of a psychological test I did last semester. I am supposed to be low in openness to experiences and low in extraversion. Which makes me a boring and shallow person.

7. I only have one ABC friend and his name is Samson. I only have one prince and his name is Realman. Speaking of which, he shrunk a bit more. I am sad.

8. I love cheesecake. I am trying to refrain from posting 10 random facts about me and food. Really. That's why I haven't mentioned that I used to hate Jap food but now am a bit more open to it. And that I can't take beef but I think I accidentally tried it when I ate mashed potato with beef bits in HK. But I spat as much of it out as I could. The story of why I don't take beef is because my family doesn't take beef. My mum says because cows (bulls? buffaloes?) plough the field and allow us to have rice (which we eat almost everyday, it's a staple) so we shouldn't be evil and eat them. It sounds mildly ridiculous but I abide by the rule. Cuz I think I have enough meat choices anyway.

9. I am really low in openness to experiences. The only bubble tea flavour I pick at each-a-cup is Mocha Ice Blended, and the only gongcha I drink is Earl Grey Milk Tea. And I don't try exotic ice-cream flavours, so I usually stick to coffee, mint and chocolate.

10. I really love rides at theme parks. Because it's the only time you can scream legitimately.

Whee, look at Samson's EEE here!

Too complicated.

Complicated people should not complicate the minds of simple people. Simple people get frustrated when they cannot understand how complicated things are, from the point of view of a complicated person. Complicated person cannot believe how simple things are, from the point of view of a simple person. A complicated person has to understand that a simple person is contented with being simple, while a simple person has to understand that a complicated person needs to complicate things up in order to feel contented.
