Marry me.

Logged into fb and found out that one of my friends is getting married.

Yes, married.

And she's my age. She's my freaking age. I don't even have a boyfriend, and she's freaking getting married. I am happy for her. I'm not a jealous old bitch yet. Okay maybe old but not jealous. She's a nice girl and her boyfriend, I mean husband-to-be looks like a good person. I'm happy for her, really. It's just shocking that people of my age are ready to move into this next stage of life now. Maybe not shocking, just a bit overwhelming for me.

As such, I have decided that I cannot be passive.

This is the dinner I cooked for myself that day. Please marry me, I can fry egg, cook maggi mee with vegetables and heat up smiley face potatoes in the toaster oven.

Quotes.

I rarely come across quotes which I feel is worth sharing. I've always dreamt of being one of those people who can insert random quotes by random important and/or unknown people in conversations from time to time. It makes what they say sound important instantly.

Today I heard a quote which goes something along the lines of "city of ghosts" and "people just come and go". I tried those keywords in google but nothing smart came up. So in my desire to share a quote and sound smart, I've dug up one of my favourite quotes from my book of quotes (which consists of only 2 quotes anyway) to share today. HAHA.

"We sit silently and watch the world around is. This has taken us a lifetime to learn. It seems only the old are able to sit next to one another and not say anything and still feel content. The young, brash and impatient, must always break the silence. It is a waste, for silence is pure. Silence is holy. It draws people together because only those who are comfortable with each other can sit without speaking. This is the great paradox."

- Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

I don't remember the story already. I only remember the great urge to copy down these words before they get lost in my short term memory store. I was hoping to share the city of ghosts quote here, but seems like I really cannot find it. :/ Please tell me if you've heard of a similar quote before.

School has been great because tutorials haven't started and I've only been attending 6hours worth of lectures/week for the past 2 weeks. That leaves me a lot of time to waste and I've been doing quite a good job. CNY is coming soon, I can't wait to have steamboat again. :)

Nothing.

It's one of those days I feel empty. I am tired but I don't feel like sleeping. I have things to do but I don't feel like doing them. I have work tomorrow but I don't feel like going. I just want to have some time to myself.

Seeing others know so much makes me feel tiny (not in terms of physical size please). I am enjoying my days but there's this sense of emptiness. Like there's something I haven't done/experienced. I don't like the fact that I am so normal, so average, so boring. I wanna talk but I don't know what to say.

This sounds so emo. But there's no reason behind this emo-ness. It's just a sudden realisation that the world is so big and things past so fast and at the end of the day, there is nothing. Not sadness, not anger, just nothing.

Welcome to Singapore!

Finally, the series of programs to welcome the angmoh has finally ended. The organising team and volunteers have really worked very hard, and it was really touching to see everything being put together and events running smoothly.

For me, I've learnt a lot more about my country. I've learnt to love SG a lot more. It makes me very proud when I sit near MBS and look at our skyline and in my head I go, "Did we really create that???" I'm so so proud of my country for the amazing things it can do. I've also learnt to love NUS a bit more.

I wanted to write a post in Chinese, cuz I thought it would all sound better in Chinese. But the software I'm using is so stupid they don't auto suggest phrases and they don't arrange the words in order of the most common to least common. So to type one simple character I have to scroll through a list. Which makes it irritating for me and good for you potato-eating men/chao ang mohs who can't read Chinese.

That was a random digression. I'm really happy that I put in more effort into know-the-angmohs in this semester. At the end of the day, it's still meaningful and fulfilling. :) The year seems to have started well!

Know-the-angmohs programme

I left that evil post there because:
1. I had no time to update anyway.
2. S_ms_n wants to read it.

So, thanks for updating the blog, Ananthalekshmi Vijamitsulathatimo. Really appreciated the hard work. It would help if you looked a little cuter.

I've been very busy this week with know-the-angmohs programme. I can't believe I am so dedicated to it. I've been to the airport 3 times this week to receive students. Maxi cabs are great for sharing and if you have 902381 pieces of luggage. Well maybe not 902381 (more like 7pieces) but you get the point. And I've helped out at 2 events so far (going to school for another one soon!). This kind of dedication scares me. HAHAHAHA.

But I guess, I really can't communicate with angmohs. Either they speak too fast or they are ABCs. Much as I convince myself to dislike them, there is something Asian about them which makes them easier to talk to (I think). I should seriously reconsider my future path with regards to knowing angmohs.

It tires me out a lot (went home yesterday and slept at 10pm) but it's kind of fulfilling I guess. It reminded me of the times when we went to HK and were so clueless about everything. I was lucky to have Ah Sin over there to meet up and street smart + experienced friends to bring us around. Ahhh, I miss HK!
